Academics

I’m in my second year of my Science degree, majoring in Chemistry currently. It took me a while to figure out exactly what I wanted to major in as I loved chemistry but also learning about the organs and tissues in the body. I minor currently in Women and Gender Studies which involves lots of topics that I 100% stand for. There is definitely a contrast between my major and minor courses but a nice contrast. In my opinion, inorganic chemistry isn’t my strong suit but organic and quantitative chemistry is something I definitely prefer. I was originally in Physiology but decided it was too specific for my taste so switched to something more general :)

Favourite Class: Econ 101 and PSYCO 104

Advice for a 1st Year: University can be scary and overwhelming but always remember to take breaks and just have fun on campus whenever possible.

Extracirricular

I think my life outside of school is divided into three different parts - family, fitness and work. I will always make time for my family no matter what is going in my life. For example, I will go for golf with my brother or make dinner with my mom or go for a run with my dad. As mentioned, golfing and running are my two favourite outdoor activities however, during the winter I like to go skiing or sledding. Outside of school, lots of my time will be spent volunteering at the Cross Cancer, tutoring children and working at birthday parties. Although they are considered work, I enjoy partaking in these tasks as I learn new skills as well as meet new people! In spite of the busy schedule, I always try to make time to sit down, relax and read a book or watch a movie with my family.

Future Aspirations: To be in the field of oncology and cancer research. Would like to understand more about the biological and environmental factors behind cancer.

Favourite Vacation:  Honolulu with my family for Christmas

Favourite Movie: Crazy Rich Asians

Why TEP?

I am actually minoring in women and gender studies where lots of my classes is involved with recruiting safety and rights for women. I think this is a nice correlation to being a part of TEP because we are a club that helps fundraise for the WIN house. The WIN house is everything many of my WGS classes stand for which is perfect. The club is filled with amazing, full-hearted individuals who just want to help the world become a better place. It’s nice to be a part of the events we put forth because the motive behind them is to bring about kindness as well as awareness to domestic violence.
