My name is Matt, I’m a 4th year science student from St.Albert and president of The Empowerment Project!
Academics
Although my academic interests stretch far beyond my program and degree of choice, I am currently in my last year of a Bachelor in Science degree, where I chose to major in both biology and psychology. The area of study that intrigues me the most is the multifaceted territory of neuroanatomy; I find it incredible how complex and intertwined the nervous system is with so many other systems in the human body. I am also very drawn to ecology, and the how the many different levels of biological diversity are both separated, but dependant on each other.

Favourite Classes: Biochemistry 200 & Psychology 377
Advice for a 1st Year: Learn how to be proactive with your studying.
Hangout Spot on Campus: CCIS or Earls!
Extracurricular
Sports have been profoundly influential and important in my life; Growing up I played lots of hockey, and although I no longer play my passion for athletics has not diminished, but rather been transferred to running. I am currently training for marathons and other long-distance runs, both for pleasure and fundraising for charity. I really enjoy pushing my body's limits and hope to one day be able to create a run or other event to support WIN House and other important organizations. Furthermore, I have been vegetarian since January 2020 and have found a new love for cooking since. I also love all things dogs, including two of my own; Copper and Penny!

Future Aspirations: To become a doctor and competitive marathon runner.
Favourite Vacation: Hawaii in 2018, for my mom's birthday.
Favourite Music Album: Illmatic by Nas.
Why TEP?
One of the largest reasons I'm passionate about spreading awareness and education on the realities of domestic violence is because before the creation of TEP and partnering with WIN House, I had very little knowledge about the prevalence of domestic violence directly around me and in my community. I knew that it existed, but I was truly shocked at how many reports and calls WIN House alone receives and sadly, how common it is. The amazing people at WIN House and on our team here at TEP have helped me become more knowledgable on such issues and how someone is able to help.
